What is a crown?
Crowns, made of zirconia or porcelain, fit on your dental implant or teeth. When capped onto your tooth, a crown strengthens and enhances its appearance. Dr. Kamanin customizes the crown to fit your mouth then bonds it to your existing tooth with dental cement.
Why do I need a crown?
Dr. Kamanin offers dental crowns to:

Crowns are most often used to restore teeth after a root canal surgery. Crowns can strengthen teeth and correct an unappealing look caused by discoloration.
How long do crowns last?
Crowns may last between five and 15 years. The duration varies by person, your dental hygiene, and the amount of wear and tear the crown endures. If you grind your teeth without using a mouth guard, the crown may wear down quicker without appropriate protective gear.
What materials are used to make crowns?
Dr. Kamanin offers two types of crowns, each with specific advantages:
Porcelain
Porcelain produces the most beautiful and natural appearance for a tooth. It reduces temperature sensitivity and is nonreactive in patients with metal sensitivities. If you grind or clench your teeth, or lack the tooth structure to support porcelain crowns, this may not be the best treatment option.
Zirconia
Zirconia is a strong, durable, and translucent material that provides a natural look to your smile. It’s more durable than porcelain but not as cosmetically attractive. Zirconia is less likely to fracture or chip compared to porcelain crowns; it’s a better option when you want cosmetic results with added durability. But it’s not recommended if you have specific metal allergies.
Does installing crowns hurt?
During the procedure, Dr. Kamanin assesses your tooth to see if it’s a good fit for a crown. He gives you a local anesthetic to prevent pain during the procedure. He shapes your tooth to ensure the crown fits over it then makes an impression of your tooth with digital images. When the crown is developed, he fits it to your tooth and makes adjustments, if necessary.
